Thanks to an outpouring of public support, planners have raised the final $20,000 needed to complete a statue to three fallen city police officers.

Two weeks ago, the Fallen Heroes Memorial Committee made an appeal for donations so it could complete the memorial in time for the dedication Monday, the two-year anniversary of the officers' deaths.

The project honors officers Paul J. Sciullo II, Stephen J. Mayhle and Eric G. Kelly, who were killed by a gunman in Stanton Heights on April 4, 2009, and serves as a tribute to other public safety personnel. The statue stands outside the church where Officer Sciullo worshipped.

"The community response was tremendous and the $20,000 goal has been surpassed," city Councilman Bill Peduto's office said in a statement Friday.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, 4712 Liberty Ave., Bloomfield. The dedication will be held at noon in front of the church.

Contributions are still being accepted for the memorial's maintenance. They may be made online at, by calling 412-681-8800 or by writing to Permanent Memorial for Fallen Heroes, c/o Bloomfield Development Corp., 366 Gross St., Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
