Pitt coach plays role of Good Samaritan

University of Pittsburgh basketball coach Jamie Dixon played the role of a Good Samaritan Saturday night when he stopped to render aid at an accident scene.

A state police corporal from the Findlay barracks confirmed that the coach help remove at least one of two occupants of a vehicle that had flipped over while northbound on Interstate 279 near the McKnight Road exit in Pittsburgh. The accident happened at about 9:30 p.m.

Mr. Dixon had been traveling the same road in the same direction when he noticed the accident and stopped to help.

The corporal said Mr. Dixon had some minor injuries to his hands and was treated at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

Police said the driver of the vehicle is unknown but a passenger, 48-year-old Diane Robinson of Zelienople, may have sustained a broken ankle.
