Pittsburgh City Council President Darlene Harris, who underwent abdominal surgery on Monday, will be able to resume a full schedule in six to eight weeks, her doctor said today.
Mrs. Harris was admitted to Allegheny General Hospital on July 31 with "sharp pains in her side," her office said in a statement.
She underwent surgery for an "inflammatory condition" that didn't respond to nine days of antibiotics, Dr. David Medich, a colorectal surgeon, said in the statement.
The surgery "was a complete success. . . . Mrs. Harris will recover fully and will be able to return to all her normal activities in six to eight weeks," he said.
The statement didn't say when Mrs. Harris will be discharged from the hospital.
