A federal judge yesterday spent more than two hours listening to both sides of a trademark fight over the rights to the Oakland Zoo t-shirts, but she said she won't make a decision on an injunction request until today or Monday.
Two weeks ago, University of Pittsburgh student Matt Cohen, who with help from his friends created the Oakland Zoo Fan Club for Pitt basketball games, filed a federal trademark infringement suit against street vendor Charles J. Bonasorte, who runs The Pittsburgh Stop Inc.
Cohen said he and the fan club own the trademark for the T-shirts and that Bonasorte is violating it by selling his own version of the shirt without paying royalties. Bonasorte says he owns the trademark.
Chief U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose is hearing the case.
