![]() Westmoreland Brief: 3/1/02
Friday, March 01, 2002
Another of the three proposed routes for a magnetic levitation train through Westmoreland County ran into opposition yesterday.
Al Marinelli of Hempfield gave the county commissioners a petition signed by more than 100 people opposed to a maglev route that would parallel Route 66 from near Delmont to Greengate Mall in Hempfield.
Marinelli said residents of Bashforth Acres and Old Oaks, residential developments in Hempfield, do not want the proposed high-speed train running through their neighborhoods.
Earlier last month, residents of Penn Township said they were opposed to another route that would take maglev through the center of their community.
