Beth El school gets honor

Wednesday, October 29, 2003

The Beth El Congregation of the South Hills has been recognized by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism as a Framework for Excellence School.

Beth El celebrated the recognition Sunday at an open house.

"By offering a program that meets all of the benchmarks, Beth El is providing the youth of your congregation a quality Jewish education that will serve them well as they mature," Rabbi Robert Abramson, the United Synagogue's education department director, said.

"We are one of only two schools in the Pittsburgh area and 53 in the nation to receive this recognition, Beth El education coordinator Shelly Schapiro said.

Beth El Congregation, founded in 1917, now comprises roughly 400 families and serves the religious, educational and social needs of the growing South Hills Jewish community.
