Iron City Sound Downtown Live!, a free summer concert series in Market Square, kicks off Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers and opening act The Longtime Darlings.
The aim of the concerts is to pair rising local artists from the Iron City Sound Ambassadors Program and celebrate the region's popular bands, representing diverse musical styles. The series continues 5 to 8 p.m. on select Fridays. The schedule:
Friday: Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers, with opener The Longtime Darlings
July 13: Jimmy Buffett look- and sound-alike Tom Watt as "The Buffett Man."
July 20: The soulful sounds of The Billy Price Band, with opener Dream Job.
July 27: Jeff Jimerson, best known as the Penguins' anthem singer, & Airborne, with opener Bear Cub.
Aug. 3: Headliner TBA, with opener Danielle Barbe.
Aug. 10: TropRockers John McDonald & The Mango Men, with opener Guaracha.
Aug. 17: Country band The Stickers.
The concert series was announced by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and Pittsburgh Brewing Company, with the site "designed to make Market Square the after-work place to be" from 5 to 8 p.m. for these Friday concerts.
