LOCAL AT LOEWS
A locally made independent movie will get its world premiere next month at Loews Waterfront.
"Why We Had to Kill Bitch," a comedy written, produced and directed by Point Park College graduate John-Paul Nickel, will be shown June 10 at 8 p.m. A flier offering free admission is available on the film's Web site, www.fivecentproductions.com.
The evening will also include performances by local bands, previews of other locally made independent films and a warm-up by comic Buzz Nutley.
The movie starts as a mock documentary and turns into a narrative comedy in midstream. Kevin, an aspiring filmmaker, decides to make a movie about his friend Eugene that would document a day in the life of an average guy. But Eugene meets a woman with whom he falls in love at first sight, and spends the rest of the day trying to find her again.
The movie utilizes local cast, crew and musicians. The actors include John Yost, Greg Caridi and Kristin Pfeifer. The bands who contributed to the soundtrack are Salena Catalina, Voodoo Babies, Crisis Car and Simon.
DUQUESNE BATTLE
The documentary film "George Washington's First War: The Battles for Fort Duquesne" will have its world premiere at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Soldier and Sailor's Memorial Hall, Oakland.
The film was written and produced by Robert and Mary Matzen, whose previous documentary, "When the Forest Ran Red," chronicled the events leading to the ambush of British Gen. Edward Braddock during the French and Indian War in 1755.
"The Battles for Fort Duquesne" tells of the events following Braddock's death and the role Washington, then a young soldier, played in them.
Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at Soldiers and Sailors Hall and at the filmmakers' website, www.paladincom.com, which also lists other locations where tickets are being sold.
Proceeds benefit Soliders and Sailors Hall.
