Public Service

1992 to present

Pittsburgh City Council
President of City Council 1998 -- Present

Introduced "88 Cops in 88 Neighborhoods" to put a beat cop in every neighborhood.

Introduced a single-rate property tax, requiring Downtown businesses to pay their fair share.

Strengthened neighborhoods by fighting to enact the Clean Streets Program.

Introduced the Community Enrichment Program that opened schools after hours for people of all ages.

Led the fight to rebuild every playground in the City of Pittsburgh.

Developed the Pitt Project Tutor Program that placed more than 100 tutors into the schools.

Secured funding to build the first and only senior high rise in Greenfield.

Led the fight to have mounted police in Downtown and city parks.

Created the Squirrel Hill Maintenance Task Force to address issues facing the business district.

Founded the Pittsburgh Center for Grieving Children Caring Place.

Initiated the "Building Bridges" Program that brings city school board, City Council and State Legislators together.
