Franklin Regional stabbing suspect to stand trial Oct. 6

A trial date of Oct. 6 has been set for Alex Hribal, the teenager charged in an April knife attack at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville.

The trial will be held in Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court. The 16-year-old is charged with stabbing or slashing 20 students and a security guard on April 9.

He is charged as an adult with 21 counts each of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

He was being held in the Westmoreland County juvenile detention center, although his attorney, Patrick Thomassey, has been trying to get him moved to a facility for mental health treatment.

Mr. Thomassey has said he plans to file a petition to move the case to juvenile court.

Later today, Mr. Thomassey filed a motion seeking a delay of 90 days in order to give him time to file other motions in the case.
