A community college student accidentally shot himself in the leg this morning in the school parking lot, county emergency officials said.
The man, a student at Community College of Beaver County, was in his car in the college parking lot off Cessna Drive, next to the Beaver County Airport, when the shooting occurred around 8 a.m., Chippewa police Chief Robert Berchtold said.
The chief said the man was clearing his gun of any bullets before he entered the school for classes and the gun went off. The man told police he was going to leave his gun in his car and wanted to empty it of ammunition.
The man’s condition was not released, although the chief said the student was conscious and alert before he was flown to UPMC Presbyterian.
