A Bridgewater man has been arrested and charged with taking a fire truck on a joy ride before returning it to the local volunteer fire department.
Randy A. Davidson, 47, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving without a license and felony counts of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property.
Davidson was charged after police were called Saturday to the fire department to review security video from May 26.
The video showed a man and woman entering the fire department. The man, identified by fire personnel as Davidson, took a fire truck key from a table and drove away with the woman in the passenger seat, according to a police affidavit.
The man returned the truck about a half-hour later. He backed the vehicle into its parking spot, returned the keys “and even plugged the electrical cord back into the rear of the vehicle so it would look as if it was not moved,” the affidavit said.
The fire chief said Davidson is not a member of the fire department and did not have permission to come into the building or drive a truck.
Davidson was arraigned Sunday and faces a preliminary hearing Monday.
No one could be reached from the police or fire departments or the borough.
