BEAVER

Inpatient hospice opens in April

Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, is opening one of Beaver County's first inpatient hospice unit on the fourth floor of Heritage Valley Health System's Beaver campus, 1000 Dutch Ridge Road.

The new 10-bed unit at Heritage Valley Beaver will serve terminally ill patients by providing a higher level of care required to face the challenges of end of life.

The 10-bed unit has two suites where families can stay in an adjoining room with the patient, a chapel and a family room overlooking a wooded landscape. Visitors are welcomed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Friends and families also may bring the patient's favorite comfort foods because the new unit will have an equipped kitchen.

BEAVER COUNTY

Trout season regulations

The Beaver County Board of Commissioners, the county Recreation & Tourism Department and the county Sheriff's Department have announced rules and regulations for the opening day of trout season -- April 13 -- at Bradys Run Park Lake.

Fishermen may set up campsites around the lake beginning at 3 p.m. April 11.

Overnight camping will be permitted April 11-13. All campsites must be removed and vacated by sundown April 14. Parking is permitted only in designated areas and lots. There will be no parking along the handicapped roadway around the lake.

Fishing is prohibited at the swimming area or the adjacent beach.

Walk-in fishing only will be permitted behind the ice arena. Overnight camping and/or fires are prohibited in that area. No one is permitted to park behind or beside the ice arena. Parking will be in the main public lot.

No glass bottles are permitted in the parks. Campfires are only permitted in designated areas along the lake and stream and must be contained in a fire ring or other suitable device. No campfires will be permitted near roadways, in the parking lots, or in the handicap fishing area.

Cutting live trees for firewood is prohibited.

The sheriff's department will patrol the park to assist fishermen and to enforce regulations.

On April 13, Brush Creek Park will open at 5 a.m. and fishing will be permitted until sunset, when the park closes. The remainder of the season, the park will open at sunrise and close at sunset, as posted. Camping and campfires are prohibited at Brush Creek Park.

Traffic restricted during road repairs

There will be traffic restrictions this week during maintenance by state Department of Transportation crews on these Beaver County roads:

• Conway-Wallrose Road, Economy - Sweeping between Route 989 and Big Sewickley Creek Road.

• Conway-Wallrose Road, Conway and Economy - Sweeping between Routes 65 and Route 989.

• Doyle Drive, Pine Grove Road, Industry and Ohioville - Shoulder improvements between Midland-Beaver and Barclay Hill roads.

• Gringo Road, Hopewell - Pipe repairs between Stone Quarry and Gringo-Independence roads.

• Hollow Road, Darlington - Shoulder improvements between Darlington and Lawrence County.

• Independence Road, Hopewell and Independence - Drainage improvements between Bocktown Road and Mill Street.

• Midland-Beaver Road, Industry - Milling between Wolf Run Road and Midland.

• Old Furnace Road, Franklin - Drainage improvements between Route 288 and White Pine Drive.

• Park Road, Chippewa and Brighton - Drainage improvements between Bradys Run and Achortown roads.

• Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) - Patching between the Allegheny County line and Eighth Street.

• Smith Ferry Road, Ohioville - Patching between Midland-Beaver and Salem Church roads.

• Thompson Hill Road, Independence - Patching between Bocktown and Tank Farm roads.

CARNEGIE AND SCOTT

Rotary scholarship is offered to seniors

The Carnegie-Collier Rotary Scholarship Fund is offering scholarships to students in Carnegie, Collier, Heidelberg, Scott, Thornburg and Rosslyn Farms.

Scholarships must be used at a two-to-four-year college/university, or technical and vocational schools.

Applicants must be graduating seniors with a 2.5 minimum grade point average. Preference may be given to students with financial need.

Applicants must submit a 1-2 page essay describing a challenge he or she has faced and how it was dealt with and what was learned from the experience.

Applicants must provide a copy of a Student Aid Report and submit the essay.

GREENE

Shivler Road repairs begin Friday

Work to repair a slide and reconstruct Shivler Road in Greene will begin Friday - weather permitting.

The slide is between Gibbs Road and McCleary Road. Crews will excavate and stabilize the slide area, improve drainage and pave the road, which is in Beaver County.

To accommodate the work, Shivler will be closed in the slide area beginning at 7 a.m. Friday. The project is expected to continue through mid-May.

Local traffic will have access up to the slide area.

About 123 vehicles use the road on an average day.

The detour is Route 18 and McCleary Road.

Lindy Paving of New Castle is the prime contractor. The work is included in a $938,475 contract for several slide repair projects.

RACCOON

Moffett Mill Road slide repairs

Work is expected to begin Friday - weather permitting - on repairing a slide and on reconstructing Moffett Mill Road in Beaver County.

The slide is between Holt and Gums Run roads. Crews will excavate and stabilize the slide area, improve drainage and pave Moffett Mill. To accommodate construction, Moffett Mill will be closed in the slide area beginning at 7 a.m. Friday continuously through mid-June.

About 804 vehicles use the road on an average day.

The detour is Raccoon Creek Road, Route 18 and Holt Road.

Lindy Paving of New Castle is the prime contractor. The work is included in a $938,475 contract for several slide repair projects.
