A 5-year-old girl was killed Friday morning when her mother's car crashed over a wooded cliff in West Finley after dropping the girl's father off at work.

The girl was identified as Taylor Ann Louise Stout of West Finley.

The girl's mother, Latasha Stout, 23, was driving the vehicle north when it crashed shortly before 7 a.m. in the 400 block of Majorsville Road, state police said.

West Finley fire Chief Stephen Emery said the girl was thrown from the car then pinned beneath it. Rescue crews had to rappel down the hillside to reach the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:45 a.m.

Chief Emery said the mother was "shaken up pretty bad" but not injured.

According to authorities, Ms. Stout crossed the center line of the road. State police were investigating the mother's claim that she was run off the road just before 7 a.m. They were also looking into whether the girl was properly restrained in her booster seat.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said the family had been living at the Four Seasons Camping Resort in West Finley while her father worked in the natural gas drilling industry.
