A 24-year-old Claysville man pleaded guilty today to a first-degree murder charge in the 2012 killing of Opal Bedillion, 80, in the home where she lived alone in East Finley, according to the Washington County district attorney's office.

Washington County Court of Common Pleas Judge Katherine Emery sentenced Frank Russell Jones to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

During a traffic stop on Jan. 7, 2012, South Strabane police found some of Ms. Bedillion's possessions in Mr. Jones' car. Pennsylvania State Police said Mr. Jones admitted under questioning that he killed Ms. Bedillion, a widow, to get money for drugs.

Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone sought and won permission to seek the death penalty at trial. But instead of taking that risk Mr. Jones pleaded guilty.
