A mother and her young son have been hospitalized after being pulled from their Port Vue home where a fire broke out early Thursday.

The fire was reported around 5:20 a.m. on Elmwood Street.

Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV said neighbors had to break the door in but could not reach the mother and child. Firefighters eventually reached them and they were removed unresponsive from the house. 

They were transported to a local hospital; their conditions have not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
