The Keystone Oaks school board voted unanimously to hire Jeffrey Kattan as middle school principal at its June 26 meeting. His official start date is July 1 and his salary will be $97,000. Board members Neely Crowell and David Hommrich were absent. Raeann Lindsey abstained. Mr. Kattan replaces Keith Konyk as principal at Keystone Oaks Middle School.

“I’m excited about joining the academic team,” Mr. Kattan told the board. “I look forward to joining the team and continue to move the district in the right direction.”

Mr. Kattan had previously been an assistant principal at Hampton High School since 2005. He also taught in the North Allegheny and Sto-Rox districts. Mr. Kattan has undergraduate and master’s degrees in physics and his master’s in education and principal certification, all from Duquesne University. Mr. Kattan is also a Keystone Oaks alumnus – graduating in 1988.

The board also approved the 2014-15 salary of $132,767 for superintendent William Stropkaj, effective July 1. Other administrative salaries were also approved including assistant superintendent Kathleen Foster at $123,575.

Additionally, the board accepted the resignation of Dormont Elementary School principal Roberta Ann Barnes effective July 31. Ms. Barnes is leaving the district to become principal at Avella Elementary School. Barnes was the principal of Aiken Elementary in Keystone Oaks when the school won the National Blue Ribbon School award in 2011.
