The Elizabeth Forward school board on Monday night approved a new three-year teachers contract by a 7-1 vote.

School director Margaret Morgan said the teachers union, the Elizabeth Forward Education Association, agreed to a wage freeze the first year of the contract.

Teachers will receive “step” increases the second and third years of the contract. Step increases usually are based on the number of years a teacher has taught.

Base salaries throughout the contract will remain at 2012-13 levels, except for those teachers who are reaching step 19, the top of the salary scale, or who were already there.

District Solicitor Patricia McGrail said teachers reaching step 19 will receive a step increase in pay plus $1,100; teachers who are already at step 19 will receive $1,100.
