CHILDREN

Bethel Park -- Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Hamilton Road, will hold vacation Bible school for age 4 to those entering fifth grade from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Aug. 9. FESTIVAL

North Strabane -- The Mental Health Association of Washington County will hold its Wine, Jazz & Pops Festival III on Saturday and Sunday at North Strabane Municipal Park, near the intersection of Routes 19 and 519 South. Entertainment will include the Washington Symphony Orchestra, Washington Jazz Orchestra and Bill Deasy. Eight wineries will take part in the event. Dormont -- A farmers market is held from 4 to 7 p.m. each Monday through Oct. 28 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church parking lot, Alabama and West Liberty avenues.

Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club holds a farmers market from 3:30 to 7 p.m. each Thursday through Oct. 17 in the parking lot of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road.

MEETINGS

Brentwood -- Poets are invited to take part in the Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Brentwood Public Library, 3501 Brownsville Road. All ages and abilities welcome. Bring 12 copies of your poems to share.

Castle Shannon -- "The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain will be discussed in book club at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 in the lower level of the Community Library of Castle Shannon, 3677 Myrtle Ave. Registration preferred but not required. To register and pick up a copy of the book: 412-563-4552.

OUTDOORS

Nottingham -- The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, with the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation, will present star-watching parties beginning at dusk Aug. 9-10 at the Mingo Creek Park Observatory near Shelter 10 in Mingo Creek County Park. The program will be canceled if it is raining or cloudy. No fee. Registration not required.

West Mifflin -- Kennywood Park will host Polish Day on Aug. 6 and Hungarian Day on Aug. 7, with discount tickets and special food available for both. Dormont -- The Hollywood Theater and Horror Realm will present 13 hours of sci-fi films starting at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 and continuing into the early hours of Aug. 11 at the theater at 1449 Potomac Ave. Cost: $13 for an all-day pass; $5 per movie. Whitehall -- Baldwin United Methodist Church is organizing a trip to Allenberry Resort and to Gettysburg, including a tour of the battlefield, from Sept. 26 to 28. Cost per person: $435 for a double-occupancy room, $376 for triple occupancy and $531 for single occupancy. Reservations require a $100 deposit per person. Final payment due by Aug. 20. WORKSHOP
