A Wilkins man hit a woman while driving a small school bus, drove back through the area to see he had hit someone and then left, Allegheny County police said.

Ernest Brevard, 71, faces charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, reckless driving, making a false report to law enforcement and traffic violations.

Allegheny County police said in a press release that a small school bus hit 67-year-old Alberta Ann Slaczka at the intersection of Greensburg Pike and Carl Avenue in Forest Hills about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, leaving her in critical condition.

Police said when they interviewed Mr. Brevard for the first time, he told them that he did not strike Ms. Slaczka.

Detectives also interviewed witnesses who told them a different story.
