Bethel Park -- John McMillan Church preschool will host a free spring carnival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 at its preschool, 875 Clifton Road. Activities will include children's games and face painting. Bethel Park police will be there to enroll children in an ID program for safety.


Jefferson Hills -- A course on deck construction and the permit and code requirements entailed will be offered at 7 p.m. May 1 at the Jefferson Hills Public Library, 925 Old Clairton Road. Call 412-655-7760 to register.


Peters -- Peters Creek Presbyterian Church, at 250 Brookwood Road, will hold a strawberry festival, including fried chicken, roast beef, sides and strawberry shortcake, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 31. Whitehall -- The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God will sell homemade wedding soup, chicken and wild rice and cheesy broccoli soups. Call 412-885-7232 by May 2 to place an order. A quart of soup is $5 and includes two dinner rolls. Orders can be picked up from 3 to 6 p.m. May 8 at the Sisters' Motherhouse, 3603 McRoberts Road.

Whitehall -- The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sisters' Motherhouse, 3603 McRoberts Road. Each meal is $8 and includes freshly prepared spaghetti with homemade marinar sauce, a salad, roll, drink and dessert.


Bethel Park -- South Arts will hold a dinner, fundraiser and show opening from 6 to 9 p.m. May 4 at the Historic Schoolhouse, 2600 South Park Road. Dinner tickets for a Cinco de Mayo dinner are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The Cinco de Mayo art show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays on June 1 and is open to the public.

Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club will hold its G-r-reat Giveaway, a fundraising event featuring fast-paced raffles with more than 250 prizes including sporting goods, toys, and jewelry, at 7 p.m. May 4 at the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Castle Shannon -- The Heritage Players are accepting online reservations for the murder mystery dinner theater fundraiser, "Till Death Do Us Part," with performances scheduled for 7 p.m. May 18 and 2 p.m. May 19 at the Castle Shannon Borough Building, 3310 McRoberts Road. Baldwin Borough -- Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Parish will host a bereavement support group covering a range of topics on grief from 8:30 to 10 a.m. May 15, May 22 and May 29 in room 202 of Saint Piux X Hall on the Saint Elizabeth campus at One Grove Place. Register: 412-207-1655.


Greensburg -- The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will present the Young People's Concert "Storm Chasers" at 10:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday at the Greensburg Salem High School, 65 Mennel Drive. West Homestead -- The Bulgarian Macedonian National Educational and Cultural Center, located at 459-451 W. Homestead Ave., will host a dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a cabaret music performance at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the dinner and performance are $50. Carrick -- A spring rummage sale featuring items such as clothes, jewelry, toys, linens and housewares will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Spencer United Methodist Church, 117 Spencer Ave.

Homestead -- A heritage market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every first and third Sunday through September at the Historic Pump House & Water Tower, 880 E. Waterfront Drive. Vendors include local food trucks and art offerings. Patrons also may explore the building and site.


Bethel Park -- St. Clair Hospital is sponsoring its annual free skin cancer screening from 6 to 7:30 p.m May 14 in Suite 115 of the St. Clair Hospital Outpatient Center, 2000 Oxford Drive. Space is limited and appointments are necessary. Register by calling 412-942-5082.

Dormont -- The Friends of Dormont Pool will hold its 7th annual pub tour of the borough's pubs from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday. T-shirts can be purchased at any of the borough's pubs or at the tent in a West Liberty Avenue parking lot across from the Dormont Public Library, which is located at 2950 West Liberty Ave.

Mt. Lebanon -- St. Winifred Women's Guild is holding a spring fling card party and luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. May 18 in Benedict Hall at St. Winifred Church, 550 Sleepy Hollow Road. Cost: $12.

Peters -- St. Peter's Creek Presbyterian, 250 Brookwood Road, will hold two services, at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. May 12, to talk about friendships and how to improve them.
