The South Fayette school board voted 9-0 tonight to terminate the district's participation in the Alternative Center for Education in North Fayette.

After the 2012-13 school year, the district will stop sending students to the program, located on the campus of Parkway West Career and Technology Center on Steubenville Pike.

South Fayette superintendent Bille Rondinelli said decreasing enrollment, due largely to competition from other alternative programs, has made tuition too expensive.

"It's unfortunate because the program is a very good one," Ms. Rondinelli said.

Seven students from South Fayette will finish the school year in the center and then be placed in other programs that meet their individual needs, she said.
