A top executive of the Pennsylvania System of Higher Education is one of three finalists for the president of the University of Wisconsin system.
The university announced today that Peter Garland, executive vice chancellor/chief operating officer of the State System, is one of three finalists along with Ray Cross, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and UW-Extension, and Robert King, president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
A committee of six regents is expected to narrow the candidates to one top choice on Tuesday. The full Board of Regents is expected to vote next Thursday.
Mr. Garland served as acting chancellor of the State System in Pennsylvania from February after chancellor John Cavanaugh resigned to October when the new chancellor, Frank Brogan, took the helm.
Mr. Garland previously was executive director of the state Board of Education.
The 14 universities of the State System in Pennsylvania include California, Clarion, Edinboro, Indiana and Slippery Rock.
