The old Masontown Bridge will be dropped into the Monongahela River on Saturday morning, causing detours on Route 21 and restrictions on the river and in the surrounding airspace, PennDOT announced.

The demolition is expected to occur between 8 and 10:30 a.m.

Starting at 6 a.m., Route 21 will be closed from Church Road in Greene County to River Avenue in Fayette County and boaters will be kept out of the area. Aircraft must keep at least 3,000 feet of clearance.

The new bridge will be closed until debris is cleared. The posted detour uses Route 88, Route 40 and Route 166.
