A Greensburg man who brought an AK-47 and a semi-automatic handgun to work Wednesday night turned himself in at a Monroeville police station today.

Matthew Smith, 28, arrived at Perma-Cast, a mold castings company in Export, and told his fellow employees to leave the building, police said in a news release.

The employees "fled and called 911," according to the release.

Minutes later, he was seen driving toward Route 22 in a gold or silver sedan.

Police believe he was living in his car "for some time," although Mr. Smith has a Greensburg address.

Police also are investigating why Perma-Cast machinery overheated and started smoking after the incident.

Mr. Smith is charged with causing or risking a catastrophe, simple assault, disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person.
