Thunderstorms a possibility in Pittsburgh area Wednesday

The National Weather Service says there is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in the region on Wednesday.

The forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. today, a slightly better chance of rain overnight and a 60 percent chance of rain on Wednesday. The main threat from severe weather will be damaging winds, the weather service said. Thunderstorms are possible on Thursday as well.

State College-based AccuWeather also warned of possible strong storms starting Wednesday morning and continuing through Thursday afternoon, with hail and damaging winds.

The stormy period will be followed by cooler weather. The forecast high today was 90; Friday's expected high is only in the mid-60s.
