Sailor from Butler County stabbed on Virginia naval base recovering

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Navy says a sailor from Butler County who was stabbed in an attack on a Virginia base is now in good condition.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Powell’s condition was upgraded today. The 25-year-old from Sarver had been listed Friday night in critical condition after surgery.

The attack on Officer Powell early Friday in Portsmouth, Va., sparked a lockdown and manhunt before his suspected assailant was arrested

Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell was arrested nearby in Virginia Beach, authorities said.

The Navy said the stabbing occurred outside the Navy Exchange at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads, Portsmouth Annex.
