A boil-water advisory remains in effect for the Waterworks shopping mall and Aspinwall, including UPMC St. Margaret, in response to a water-main break Friday along the Allegheny Valley Railroad track in Etna, the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority said.

The authority is repairing a 60-inch diameter main near Route 8 and the on-ramp to Route 28.

"Due to the size and location of the main, the repair process is more extensive," the authority said in a news release today. "Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the week."

The break was discovered around 11 a.m., and customers in Aspinwall and Waterworks Mall experienced decreased water pressure, which could allow contamination to enter the system through back-flow.

"As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms," the authority said.

The authority collected water samples Friday night and again today. After another round of samples Sunday, the authority expects to lift the advisory by Sunday afternoon.
