An improvement project at Route 8 and Hardies Road in Hampton will begin today, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

Traffic will not immediately be restricted. After temporary signals are erected, overnight work will proceed starting at 8 p.m. daily, with restrictions lifted by 5 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. Sundays.

Two lanes will be open on Route 8 for most of the project. A 40-day closure of West Hardies Road from Route 8 to Pioneer Road and two weekends of single-lane traffic on Route 8 will be scheduled at a later date.

The $2.7 million project includes construction of left turn lanes in all directions, widening, road reconstruction, signage, pavement markings and signal improvements. Completion is scheduled for fall. The project was delayed for more than a year by property acquisition problems.
