Three people were injured, one critically, in a shooting early this morning in New Castle.

Police were dispatched around 3 a.m. to the 300 block of East Hillcrest Drive for a report that three people had been shot.

Husband and wife, Shawntelle and Montral Johnson, and a man named Michael Foster were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, with gunshot wounds, according to a New Castle police news release.

Mr. Foster suffered at least one shot to his neck and is in critical condition, which police also described as stable. Mr. Johnson was shot once in the ankle and twice in the arm, and a bullet grazed his wife's head, police said. The couple is expected to be released after treatment.

The investigation is ongoing, and exactly what happened at the residence, and Mr. Foster's relationship to the couple, was not immediately clear.

"Once the facts are established, the appropriate criminal charges will be filed," police said in the release.
