Shaler Area school board Wednesday night unanimously approved a new $3,000 contract with PA-Educator.net for the 2013-14 school year.
Gary Mignogna, human resources manager, explained that PA-Educator is an online recruitment tool used by school districts in Pennsylvania that is a database of applications, clearances and certifications held by teachers seeking jobs. He said it gives administrators the ability to search for appropriate candidates and email them with job offers. "It's a good online technical tool."
Everything is done electronically when it comes to hiring teaching staff at Shaler, he said. Many other Pennsylvania districts also use the service.
It prevents any perceptions of nepotism, said board president James Giel, comparing the site to Monster and other career sites.
School board member Jeanne Petrovich was absent for the vote.
Preventing any perception of mishandling of funds was the reason the board asked the new Shaler Area PAGE (Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education) parent organization to rename its president and secretary positions, currently a husband-wife team.
Once assured the officers would be changed, the board unanimously approved the new self-funded parent organization. Currently, William Couts and others on the board are studying the bylaws of parent booster groups in the district to prevent any perceived or real conflicts created by husband-wife teams and considering revising school policy on that issue.education - neigh_north
