A man found dead after a house fire early this morning in Forward Township died of a gunshot wound, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said.

That office hasn't identified the man, who was found by a neighbor on the first floor in his home around 2:24 a.m., Charles Moffatt Allegheny County police superintendent said.

The manner of death is pending.

The neighbor saw the house in the 400 block of Bunola River Road on fire, ran inside, discovered the man and called 911. The fire is being investigated as a possible arson, the superintendent said.

Allegheny County police are leading the investigation. No additional details were available.
