A missing Lawrence County man was found dead in Slippery Rock Creek on Thursday afternoon.

The death of Jeffrey Alborn, 49, of Hickory is being investigated as a suicide, said Sam A. Teolis, Lawrence County deputy coroner.

At 5:30 a.m., a motorist notified state police that a person was standing near a bridge railing on Route 422 that overlooks the creek, state police in New Castle said. A search that included the use of rescue dogs and a helicopter was initiated by local fire departments and state police.

Hours later, the man was found in the creek and pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m, state police said.

An autopsy was completed this evening, though the cause and manner of death are still pending.
