Police search for hit-and-run driver who injured bicyclist

State police are searching for a driver who struck a bicyclist, severely injuring him, in a hit-and-run incident in Armstrong County early Friday.

According to police, Brian Edward Weiland, 46, of Fennelton, Butler County, was riding his bicycle south on Freeport Road in South Buffalo around 6:30 a.m. when he was hit from behind by a southbound vehicle. Mr. Weiland suffered a "severe" cut in his neck and was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital, police said. His condition has not been released. Police said the vehicle that hit him continued down the road.

Police described the vehicle as a 1982 to 1994 white Chevrolet Cavalier or Pontiac Sunfire. Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Kittanning at 724-543-2011.
