North Hills High School senior Tyler Jenkins was among 13 finalists selected recently to represent the Pittsburgh section of the American Chemical Society in the United States National Olympiad. He competed with 152 students for prizes, scholarships and the opportunity to compete in the National Olympiad.

To qualify, Jenkins participated in the 2013 Secondary School Chemistry Contest sponsored by the Pittsburgh section of the American Chemical Society on April 6 at the University of Pittsburgh.

Jenkins completed College-in-High School chemistry during his sophomore year and is currently taking AP chemistry. In the fall, he will continue his education at Case Western Reserve University.

Katherine Zhou of North Allegheny High School won the $5,000 grand prize for her texting & driving video in the "Words to be Heard" scholarship contest sponsored by Edgar Snyder & Associates.

Matthew Clark of Pine Richland High School won a $2,500 scholarship for a drinking & driving rap.

• Fox Chapel junior Yiyi Zhao and sophomore Rishi Mirchandani and Shady Side Academy Senior School senior Blake Beckemeyer were winners in The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America Essay Contest.

• The Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce recently elected board members: Cora DeLoia, owner/partner of Spoiled Chics the Boutique, has been elected board president for the 2013-14 term; Alexis Comunale, owner of Jewel Thief in Sewickley; Kate Weiss Duncan, board secretary and general manager of the Penguin Bookshop; John Douglas Florey, executive director of Laughlin Children's Center; Leo Grandovic, vice president and treasurer, manager of Northwest Savings Bank.
