The shooting death of a McCandless woman in March has been ruled suicide.

Kathryn Miller, 51, who had resided since October in the Hickory Hills Apartments with her boyfriend, Terrance Michalski, 60, died of a gunshot wound of the chest March 5.

Allegheny County homicide detectives yesterday concurred with the findings June 17 by the county medical examiner that the fatal wound had been self-inflicted.

Mr. Michalski told investigators that he was taking a shower while Ms. Miller was in another room. When he emerged from the bathroom he found Ms. Miller dead, and he immediately called 911 at 11:50 a.m., police said.

An autopsy was insufficient in determining the cause and manner of death, though homicide detectives suspected early in the investigation that Ms. Miller's death could have been suicide.

Officers recovered the gun used in the shooting. There were no signs of forced entry to the apartment.
