A $10.7 million construction project on Route 286-Golden Mile Highway in Monroeville was scheduled to begin tonight, weather permitting, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

The project includes milling and resurfacing, widening and the addition of a turning lane between Route 22 and Old Frankstown Road. It also calls for drainage improvements, signal updates, culvert widening, shoulder work, signage and pavement markings, improvements on Old Frankstown Road and guiderail upgrades.

Alternating one-way traffic is possible starting at 6 p.m. weeknights through early June, with restrictions lifted by 6 a.m. daily. Other traffic pattern changes are expected as the project moves toward a scheduled completion late next year.
