Missing woman's body found in Monongahela River near Turtle Creek

A Wilmerding woman who has been missing since March 17 was found dead in the Monongahela River near Turtle Creek this evening, authorities said.

Ruth Ann Mullennix, 55, was found under the Union Railroad bridge at 6:43 p.m. tonight, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said. An autopsy will be performed Thursday.

A firefighter at the North Braddock Volunteer Fire Department Station 207 said he could not discuss the incident. A community social media page, North Braddock Net, indicates that county homicide detectives have been notified.

A volunteer firefighter who was helping search for the missing woman was struck and killed by a train March 22 in North Versailles. The firefighter, Edwin “Jeff” Wentzel, served with the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department in Westmoreland County for 35 years, said Youngwood fire Chief Lloyd Crago.
