An armed man robbed a Denny's restaurant this morning in Monroeville.

He made off with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register before escaping in a pickup truck.

The robbery happened around 11:25 a.m. in the 3900 block of William Penn Highway between Duff and Stroschein roads.

The robber displayed a handgun to a cashier, took the money and fled, Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said.

The chief described the suspect as white, 6 feet tall with a medium build, blue jacket, blue jeans and a blue ball cap.

He left in a maroon or burgundy Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, possibly a 2004 or 2005 model, with a pewter-colored cap on the bed.

Police believe the robber was the only person in the vehicle, which was not parked right near the Denny's, Chief Cole said.

Investigators are busy compiling video from the Denny's and nearby businesses.
