A man has been convicted of murder and robbery in the shooting death of a homeless man authorities said was targeted as he slept in his car.

Jurors in York County convicted Shamar McCowin, 24, on Friday of all charges in the November 2012 death of Edward Green, 46. Mr. McCowin faces a mandatory life term without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced in March.

Authorities said Mr. McCowin and Malcolm Bull, 20, were looking for someone to rob in York and targeted Green, a restaurant cook living in his car behind a house where some friends lived. Prosecutors said McCowin opened the door and started shooting at Green, who fled but later died of multiple gunshot wounds. Police said the robbers took off in his car and later torched it.
