New Jersey trucker killed in Pennsylvania Turnpike crash in Westmoreland County

A New Jersey man driving a tractor-trailer was killed this afternoon in a crash at a Pennsylvania Turnpike service plaza, the Westmoreland County coroner’s office said.

For an unknown reason, the tractor-trailer driven by Arvind Bains, 43, of Cartright, N.J., traveled over a curb in the New Stanton Service Plaza parking lot, through a guiderail and down an embankment around 12:40 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

Mr. Bains was transported to Excela Frick Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The coroner said neither weather and road conditions nor cell phone use was a factor, and seat-belt use was unknown. The cause and manner of Mr. Bains’ death are pending, the coroner said.
