Murrysville council members reviewed recommendations from the administration to hold the line on taxes for the coming year, giving unanimous approval Wednesday night to advertise an ordinance setting the tax rate at 12.15 mills for 2014.

The tax ordinance is required by law to be approved prior to the adoption of the annual operating budget. Approval to advertise the tax ordinance means it will be on the voting agenda in December.

Line item tax rates are proposed as follows: 7.05 mills as a general tax rate, 1.9 mills to be used for capital improvements, 1.0 mills for repayment of municipal debts, 0.5 mills for road improvements, 0.8 mills for the operation of the Murrysville library, 0.2 mils for fire equipment/Medic One vehicles and 0.2 mils for fire hydrants.
