A seven-year-old boy who was being attacked by a dog is hospitalized this morning and the dog was fatally shot by a neighbor.
Pittsburgh police said authorities responded to a report of shots being being fired on Radcliffe Street in Esplen at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Officers arrived to discover that the child had been bitten in the head by a dog. The breed was identified as pitbull.
A news release from police indicated that the child was taken to Children's Hospital of UPMC where he is listed in stable condition.
Police said the child's 14-year-old brother ran to a neighbor for help during the dog attack and the neighbor, who has a license to carry a firearm, shot the dog. The dog, which was owned by a friend of the child's mom, died.
