A man found shot to death in Highland Park on Wednesday afternoon likely killed himself, Pittsburgh police said.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified him as Christopher Winter, 60, of Oakmont. Mr. Winter was a funeral director at Winter Funeral Home in Bloomfield, a medical examiner spokesman said. An autopsy will be performed Thursday to determine the official cause and manner of his death.

Police were called to a wooded area near Hawthorne Grove about 12:40 p.m. after a passer-by spotted the man and called 911, Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.

Ms. Toler said police suspect Mr. Winter walked along a set of stairs near the city pool and then shot himself.
