A 15-month-old boy in the Hill District was taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC this afternoon after nearly drowning, public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.

The babysitter, 24, told police she placed the boy in the bathtub, which had about 3 inches of water in it, Ms. Toler said. The woman left to get a towel and returned to find the child lethargic, but breathing, she said.

Police and medics responded to the call of a possible drowning at about 2:50 p.m. in the 600 block of Hollace Street, she said.
