McKeesport man held after city car chase, crash

A McKeesport man was in the Allegheny County Jail Saturday after a 75-mph, 15-minute car chase with Pittsburgh police Friday night. The chase ended when the suspect crashed his car into an occupied police cruiser.

He then ran away from police, resulting in him being tased by an officer, Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. No one was seriously injured.

The suspect, Wesley Alexander, 31, faces felony charges of escaping and fleeing from police officers, nine charges of recklessly endangering others and multiple traffic violations, according to court records. His bond was set at $100,000.

Ms. Toler said Mr. Alexander led police from the Fort Duquesne Bridge through the North Side, Ross, West End, Dormont and Green Tree after he was stopped for a traffic violation around 9:45 p.m. The chase ended around 10 p.m. on Colerain Street in Mount Oliver

Mr. Alexander is set to appear in court June 10.
