Two men were shot this afternoon when at least one gunman opened fire from an SUV into a courtyard full of people at Allegheny Dwellings, a housing complex on Belleau Street in Fineview.
One man was shot in the face and the other in the arm and leg, police said, and both were being treated at Allegheny General Hospital. One person in the group that was fired upon shot back at the SUV, but police don't know if anyone in the vehicle was hit.
Witnesses in the 1700 block of Belleau said they heard a barrage of shots, and police recovered 21 shell casings from the street.
Cmdr. RaShall Brackney said the SUV drove into the housing plan shortly after 1 p.m. and turned around in the cul-de-sac at the end of the plan. As the vehicle was heading back the other way, at least one passenger fired a semi-automatic out the window at a group standing in the courtyard of one of the buildings.
Cmdr. Brackney said detectives have not yet been able to interview the victims. She refused to say if police have identified the person who fired back or if that person is in custody.
Police are looking for the SUV, described as a white or tan 2013 Ford Explorer.
