Suspicious ticking package revealed to be metronome; Shadyside-Squirrel Hill roads reopen

Pittsburgh police have reopened a section of Fifth Avenue on the Shadyside-Squirrel Hill border that was shut down while they investigated a report of a suspicious package.

Police said they were called to the 5600 block of Fifth Avenue about 1 p.m. after a woman called 911 to say she found a package in her building that had an “audible ticking” sound and tossed it out a window.

The package turned out to be a gift — a metronome, police have confirmed — and did not contain explosives.
