A Knoxville man remains jailed on charges that he assaulted his stepdaughter in their home.
Alexander Podomik, 58, was arraigned on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and unlawful restraint. He was being held in the Allegheny County Jail Saturday on $250,000 bond.
Pittsburgh police wrote in a criminal complaint that they were called to the pair’s Roll Way home about 10 a.m. Wednesday after they received a call to check on someone’s well-being and arrived to hear someone moaning.
When an officer walked inside, he saw Mr. Podomik sitting on the floor next to his stepdaughter, whose face was covered in blood and who was partially unclothed, according to a criminal complaint. The officer asked Mr. Podomik what happened and he said, “I don’t know,” police wrote.
Officers who searched the home said they found broken mirror glass, two claw hammers, clothing and an empty liquor bottle.
Mr. Podomik’s stepdaughter was taken to a local hospital, where she was in critical condition. Doctors told police, according to the complaint, that she had two open skull wounds, bruising on more than 80 percent of her body and suffered from severe dehydration.
Mr. Podomik, who uses a wheelchair, told police he drank vodka that night and did not recall what happened, police wrote.
