The Democratic National Committee has invited Pittsburgh to be among the contenders to host the party's convention in 2016.
Mayor Bill Peduto said today that the city has been invited to apply to be the host city, and while he said it would bring the city greater recognition, it would also be a pricey venture.
"It would be a great honor for the city … and bring worldwide prominence to the city once again," he said. "We have to be cognizant of whether or not we can afford it. Right now we’re pinching pennies to be able to buy rock salt."
